Central New York Environmental Systems

The environmental systems cluster includes wide-ranging manufacturers and service firms aimed at supplying products and services for analyzing, engineering, monitoring, controlling, or modifying indoor and/or outdoor environments. The cluster also includes specific component manufacturers whose products are typically used by other environmental systems firms. The Environmental Systems technology industry is the most specialized technology niche for the Central Upstate New York region, being more than five times as concentrated in the region than in the United States as a whole.

The Syracuse University based Center of Excellence- Environmental Systems (announced in 2002), which will house the Environmental Quality Systems Science, Technology and Academic Research Center (EQS STAR) and NYIEQ (a non-profit organization incorporated in 2000 to promote development of new technology and products for assessing and improving indoor air quality) will give Upstate New York the potential to develop into a national and international leader in the research, application, and manufacture of solutions to environmental problems.

Funding commitments from regional sources like the State of New York, Pyramid Management Group, Niagara Mohawk - A National Grid Company, McQuay International, SRC, Carrier, and Welch Allyn are creating the infrastructure for Upstate New York to become a world-class center in environmental systems research.
